The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR)<\/a> has started a nationwide initiative to map markets and individual shops<\/strong> as part of the implementation of the Easy Tax Scheme for shopkeepers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From October 2, 2026<\/strong>, FBR officials are scheduled to visit markets in coordination with representatives of the business community. The initiative aims to improve tax awareness, facilitate return filing and bring more retail businesses into the documented tax system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Is FBR Mapping Shops?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The shop-mapping exercise is designed to give FBR better visibility of the retail sector while helping shopkeepers understand their tax obligations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During market visits, FBR officials will work with traders’ representatives and provide information about the Easy Tax Scheme and income tax return filing process<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The initiative also reflects FBR’s broader push toward a more documented and compliant business environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Easy Tax Scheme for Shopkeepers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Special Tax Scheme for Small Shopkeepers is currently in its initial implementation phase<\/strong>. FBR says it is working with traders, market representatives and trade bodies to address practical and technical difficulties during registration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scheme is intended to provide small retailers with a simpler route into the formal tax system while encouraging voluntary compliance and making tax obligations easier to manage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tax Return Filing Remains Important<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the key objectives of the FBR visits is to brief shopkeepers about tax return filing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A technical issue related to the \u201cOther Income\u201d column<\/strong> in tax returns, which had been highlighted by traders, has reportedly been resolved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shopkeepers should therefore review their tax information and ensure that their returns are filed accurately within the applicable timeframe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Penalties for Late Filing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

FBR has urged shopkeepers to take advantage of the 15-day filing extension<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
